【視聴率は大河ドラマ越え】テレビ東京の人気企画「池の水ぜんぶ抜く」の低予算・高視聴率に他局が死ぬほど悔しがる
テレ東がNHKを破る“ジャイアントキリング”
かなりの数のテレビ局職員や、広告代理店の関係者が、11月26日、午後7時54分からの2時間番組を注目している――かもしれない。この日、テレビ東京の「日曜ビッグバラエティ」が、人気シリーズ「池の水ぜんぶ抜く」第5弾を放送する。タイトルは「緊急SOS！ 史上最大の池に異常発生！ 怪物10000匹!? 池の水ぜんぶ抜く大作戦5」というものだ。 登場するのは神奈川県横須賀市「光の丘水辺公園の四季の池」と大阪府枚方市「山田池公園」の2つ。一体、中から何が出てくるのか、今から本当に楽しみだ……などと書いても、未見の方は何のことやら理解不能だろう。
この「池の水ぜんぶ抜く」シリーズは2017年1月15日に第1回がオンエアされた。その後は不定期ながらも着実に続編が放送されている。回を重ねるごとにファンが増え、これまでに様々なメディアが、魅力の解説や裏話の紹介などを行った。芸能ニュースとして取り上げられたことは少なくとも2回ある。
まず6月の第3回「池の水ぜんぶ抜く＆駆除の達人 緊急SOS！ヤバイ現場に行ってみた！」では、タレントの伊集院光が出演した経緯が話題になった。
伊集院光も夢中になったクオリティ
前回の第2回で番組側が「出演したいタレントがいたら連絡ください」と呼びかけたところ、伊集院が自身のラジオで立候補したのだ。スポーツ紙などが「出演を熱望するほど面白い番組」という観点で報じた。
次が9月の第4回「緊急SOS！ 超巨大怪物が出た！ 出た！ 池の水ぜんぶ抜く大作戦4」だ。視聴率が何と11.8％（ビデオリサーチ調べ・関東地区）を記録。同時間帯の人気ナンバーワン「世界の果てまでイッテQ!」』（日本テレビ系）の22.0％には及ばなかったが、大河ドラマ「おんな城主 直虎」（NHK総合）の11.3％は上回った。テレ東がNHKを凌駕するなど前代未聞。こちらは大ニュースとして報じられた。
一体、どんな番組なのか。その内容は極めてシンプル。様々な理由から、とりあえず池の水を抜く。それだけだ。とはいえ中から実に様々なものが出てくる。それが視聴者を夢中にさせてしまう。
視聴者が夢中になる理由として「宝探しの面白さに満ちている」という批評もあった。ライバルのキー局ディレクターが悔しさをあらわにする。
「本当に『やられた』というのが正直な気持ちです。普通、池の水を抜くだけで2時間の番組が成立するとは思いません。ところが実際に見てみると、非常に面白い。何十か所も紹介しているわけでもなく、だいたい3～5か所ぐらいです。伊集院さんが出演を希望したという理由も分かります」
製作は「モヤモヤさまぁ～ず2」に登場した「伊藤P」
プロのディレクターにとって特に驚かされたのは、ハイペースで続編を作ってきたことだ。
「今年1月から9月までの間に4本というのは相当に早いです。視聴率が高く、社内の評価も高く、そして社会的な反響も届かないと、これほど次々には続編を作りません。実際、第1回の放送が終了すると、あちこちから『うちの池も水を抜いてほしい』という要望が殺到したというエピソードも紹介されているようです。同業者から見れば、今年一番の大ニュースでしょう。これだけ好評で、なおかつ製作費が格安という夢のような企画は、なかなか存在しないものですが、これはそれをやってのけた」
プロデューサーは伊藤隆行氏。「モヤモヤさまぁ～ず」のファンなら「伊藤P」はご存じだろう。他にも例えば「やりすぎコージー」のプロデューサーも担当したと聞けば、表面的な番組の雰囲気は全く違うとはいえ、「池の水ぜんぶ抜く」を作りそうだと多くの人が納得するのではないか。とにかく企画が変わっているのだ。
実際、あまりに独創的だったため、伊藤氏も「池の水」は社内で「想像を絶する猛反対が起きた」ことを明かしている（「日経エンタテインメント！」11月号）。しかし放映してみると、今度は大きな反響が寄せられたという。好評を背景にしてか、同誌のインタビューではレギュラー化も否定していない。
日曜夜8時の視聴率激戦区に、まさかの伏兵が登場。11月26日の夜、視聴者はどんな“審判”を下すのだろうか。
